New Collection: Urban Textures

How are you all?!

It has been sometime since I had done a blog post and an update, because much has been happening in my world.

The most exciting of which is that I have a new collection available on my Etsy store!

It is titled Urban textures and much of the content that is in the collection was collected (photographed) while I was in a wheelchair in 2016. My view and perspective of the world had changed, as a result my art changed accordingly.

I have even been doing some scrapbooking layouts with the new collections, and it has been SOME TIME since I did a scrapbook layout! I really like the grungy tones which lends itself to masculine themed layouts. FINALLY I have some thing that isn't vintage to scrapbook photos of my friends (most of which are male) with.

I even pulled out/found my embossing powders which doing this layout. I forgot I had them, but LOVE working with embossing powers, such a lovely medium to work with.

Hello my lovely creative beauties. 

I have been rather quiet due to studies but I am slowly trying to find a routine to include some scrapbooking time. I have found it is something I miss terribly when I don't get to play with papers and paints. 

Today I am sharing a layout I did of some photos of my brother taken by a good friend. 

I had no chip board to mount the final layout of to which unfortunately meant that the piece is a bit curly.

I used more paints and sprays and texture pastes than I have used in a long time. 

I found a few embellishments in my stash that I felt works rather nice in the over all feel. As the photos were a lovely high contrast, I opted for a complimentary high contrasting orange over the black crackle in the back ground. 

Adventures in Winter

So before I injured me knee I was quite active and going out a lot. However it was during winter and I had to rug up really well to make sure I didn't get sick. Some mornings were rather brisk and required covering my nose to stop getting a very cold face. As usual I was doing my photo journals of my days.

I found a working Cookie Monster at Savers and op shop recently and was SO excited! 

Naturally I had to do a layout to add to my kids folder. 

My New Blues

Hi there scrappers

Got a personal layout for you this time, I don't usually do layouts of myself. This was something to commemorate though, so I snapped a selfie and did a 12x12 layout.

Few years back I was diagnosed with Meares-Irlen Syndrome and have been wearing coloured glasses ever since. For the first 12 months I was going with the Irlen Spectral filters which while costly were doing the trick of helping me with my dyslexia, visual processing and reading, along with general anxiety due to photosensitivity. After a bit of research I changed to a much more cost effective alternative done through a local optometrist, Cerium Colorimitory. And wow did I get a much better result although a few months back I noticed some old symptoms crop up. I went and had my color retested and collected my new filters a week later. They were awesome!

I did the layout to remind myself how beneficial these filters are.

The background is a basic weave Kaisercraft cardstock that I used a Prima stencil and some "tinsel" Colour Shine from Heidi Swapp. I added a bit of stamping over the top of that in a few places with some kaisercraft texture stamps. 

The papers for the photo stack are some scraps from my Cafe au Lait collection available on my webstore. 

The cogs were cut out with my Silhouette Cameo and then stacked and glued to make them a bit more dimensional. They were then painted and stained and covered in Tim Holtz's rock candy crackle medium, which is so awesome. 

I then added vintage photo stain over the top to give that rusted aged look. 

To title the pages I pulled out some kaisercraft letters and embossing powders.

Cafe au Lait: Vintage Layout "Times Gone By"

Hey Crafters, 

I am really loving working with this new collection Cafe au Lait.

Today I have a lovely vintage layout using some of the 12x12 papers which I had printed at a local print shop on A3 paper. This time I went with simple 80gsm paper, which surprisingly still held up well to what I threw at it.

The photo is of, I think, my maternal grandmother's extended family. I am not too sure as there were no names on the photo that I found in my family pictures. I really just like how the photo looked. 

I have used old music sheets stacked behind the photo with a couple old book pages as well. The Donna Downey Studio Damask Stencil in the background was done using Prima's Finnibair Art Extra Vagance Texture Paste - Copper Crackle with a bit of misting over the top. I had a few scraps of the Cafe au lait cardmakers set on my desk which I turned in to tags and tuck them in behind the photo.

The wood flourishes are Kaisercraft Wood flourish Ornate Corner which were painted with Tim Holtz Distress Paint- Antiqued Bronze which came up really well.

Cafe au Lait: Layout "Mischief"

Well Hello all, great to see you back again.

I have been very busy with this new collection, really loving it and I hope you are as well.

This layout is of a friend, and the title is very fitting. There's mischief in those eyes. He is a big kid and revels in the that fact, be he is very kind and caring man at the same time.



I have used the 12x12 Cafe au Lait collection for this layout which was printed on 80gsm and really held up to the texture paste and spray that I threw at it. The page I used that first glued to a cardstock backing to fill it out to the 12x12.

The "Mischief" title was cut using my cameo, love that thing but i just don't use it enough. I covered the title in some glossy accents for the final effect. The circles and compass rose are from Creative Embellishments which I just love. Adding the Keyhole just broke those circles up a little. All the papers behind the photo are from the cut and create page of the collection which are included in the Digital Paper Pack.

Down the Rabbit hole Layout

I released my first independent collection in May titled Down the Rabbit Hole which is my take on the immortal Alice in Wonderland.

Today I want to show you a layout I have done with the collection.

To print the digital paper out to a layout size I went to my local copy shop which is officeworks here in Australia and chose the paper weight I wanted which was 200 gsm. A nice heavy weight that can handle having texture paste and glue being thrown at it.

I really do love how the colors in this collection came out and I look forward to using it for future projects

The Family Record Conclusion...for now.

Hi there, great to have you here again. 

A few weeks ago I published the introduction to a year long project I have been working on. The Family Record. I combined my love and interest of genealogy and scrapbooking and created a massive project. Here are all the videos of the project including the final 2.

Scrapbook Layout WANETD

My brother sends me the BEST photos sometimes, usually around Halloween. 

This was one of those quick layouts I started in December last year, 

 

Edit: Some of you by now would have noticed the spelling error, I or my housemate did not notice this until I have originally posted this. This is what dyslexia looks like. The funny thing was my brother was the one who pointed it out and took it as an intentional joke. He too is dyslexic and more so than me. 

New Collection: 1920

Hello creative ones.

I had a few requests regarding my Gentleman Collection that was released last year. Many people liked the backgrounds but didn't want the graphic elements on the papers.

As a result I have released the 1920 collection as just that. All the grungy textured backgrounds without the graphics. There are three sizes, 12x12, 8.5x11 Letter and Cardmakers Size which depending on the size paper you print it can come out at 5 3/4 inches. I had some photos from when Danial, my big brother, was here last year. Ones that HE took of ME. 

This is yet another one of the quick layouts I started in December last year. They really are so much fun, and when I am having a low day they seem to back to a better state of mind.

Hello crafters.

I have had a MASSIVE few weeks and I most certainly did burn out mentally, physically and emotionally. The latter is not a good place to be for someone who has depression. 

Over the Easter weekend I was in no so great shape and noticed I had this layout sitting on my craft table which has been there for over a month. With the intention of trying to get myself back in a better mental state I actually got it finished and I LIKED IT! 

Over the year there have been many studies talking about art therapy helping people with depression and other mental health issues. I for one find it deeply beneficial as it was the entire reason for starting scrapbooking. I have been doing art all my life from painting to textiles and fashion and jewelry. Scrapbooking for me indulges my  Stationary Obsession as well as the creative expression. With scrapbooking you are usually working with a photo, I tend to emotionally connect with the image and the moment or a memory around the photo, for me this helps focus the mind. However it is important to choose the right photo as scrapbooking a picture of my dead mother would have been a disaster.  

The weekend after I did this layout I did two other layouts which I still need to take photos of, hopefully this weekend.

Always looking so mischievous

Hi there readers, welcome again to another post. 

This is another one of those quick layouts I did in December. This is of a really good friend of mine who has a habit of looking a bit mischievous when I get photos of him.

As mentioned previously this layout like the others was done quickly with embellishments I could get my hands on quickly. I used some stenciling with texture paste and also inking. With this layout I also added a bit of crackle paint.  Some of the embellishments are Prima clocks, Creative Embellishments circles chippies, some film strip from Tim Holtz. I also had a Silhouette Cameo film strip in my stash too.

My Big Brother

Hey Crafters, 

After my move 4 weeks ago, I found some layouts I had been working on during December.

During December, while in my second stint of recovery from my surgery, I pulled out some photos of my brother and did some quick layouts. I had some recent photos from his visit to Adelaide in 2014 and a few I pinched off his Facebook gallery. 

  

I didn't spend too much time of planning these layouts and just grabbed papers and embellishments and put it all together in under an hour. I rather enjoyed the process, sometimes it is just good to do things a little differently. Stops activities from becoming predictable. 

The idea was to use methods and techniques I hadn't for a while. Stamping and sprays and things along that line. Also pulled out embellishments that I haven't used for a while. Overall it was a load of fun and now that my craft corner is set up I might do this regularly. 

pacific Rim

Hey there crafters.

Being a rather serious about sci fi and especially sci fi with ROBOTS! I made this double layout.

Pacific Rim rocked my socks off.  It was just a whole lot of fun to watch and the merchandise was just awesome, if not difficult to get here in Australia.

I wanted pay homage to my love for Pacific Rim so did this double layout using some of the "blueprint" designs of the jaegers I found online.

I rummaged through my stash of various embellishments and found some chippies and silver embossing powder and some of my texture stamps from kaisercraft.

I like that I ended up with.
